I Listen with Love to my Body’s Messages
I recently decided to see a Naturopath for a consultation. The session was very enlightening and I received many supportive pieces or diagnoses, if one wants to refer to the medical model. At different times in my life I have been faced with physical challenges, and with each one, I have been empowered to make positive, self-supportive changes.
I believe a physical diagnosis is the gift our body gives us. It is the body’s call to make changes in the way we take care of ourselves… Asking us to release the old negative patterns that are no longer working in our lives…
When my body is hurting, I know there is a message for me. I refer to Louise L. Hay’s books… Heal Your Body or You Can Heal Your Life, I read the “Probable Cause” section without self-criticism or judgement of my life or the actions of others and say Thank You for this special gift.
The diagnosis is empowering because it gives me the clue… What does my Inner Child or High Self desire in this moment… I have a cold and the message is “I’m doing too much”… so I take myself to bed and rest… Have you ever noticed how easy it is to give yourself time to stop and rest when you have a cold or the flu?
In the fall we are bombarded with messages telling us it is time to rest… Well that’s the way I interpret these Cold and Flu medicine advertisements… It is the same with any diagnosis… Self-care is the answer… It can be as easy as stopping the feelings of wrong… the “why didn’t I’s”, the “if only’s”, the “I should’s”…
I know we are all doing the best we can in each moment, and the diagnosis gives us an opportunity to continue to do our best… it give us additional information which supports our self-care.
Self-care involves the whole person, Mind, Body and Spirit… How can I heal in an environment of chaos and abuse? How can I heal if I make everything in my life wrong? How can I heal if I fail to trust in a higher purpose? How can I heal if I feel powerless in taking care of myself. The healing begins when I am willing to stop all criticism and love and accept myself exactly as I am.
The secret is to accept the message, become informed about
the diagnosis and take charge of our healing, Mind, Body and Spirit… The first
step is to put yourself first… Set boundaries which support you… Learn to say
No… and Accept support.
